Basement Framing, Plumbing

My friend Hersh was back today to frame the basement.  I missed his smiley face in the morning.  He must have known I'd have the temporary heat running.  Plumbing on the first floor ceiling continued.  We're using a "super" PEX that has a wider diameter tube, but most importantly plastic fittings.  Some of the PEX systems installed in the last decade or so are showing rust where the crimp fittings were touching the tube... some were even failing.

Plumbing Rough In

Now that the HVAC upstairs is either completed or not going to interfere, Phil from Carefree plumbing can do his work.  This house, like most houses being built now, has an upstairs and downstairs mechnical room - therefore, there is no ductwork in the joists between the first and second floor.  This also means that the plumber can work WHILE the HVAC guys are in the house, which is an added speed bonus for me.

HVAC Continues

A relatively quiet day today - just Andy and his crew continuing the duct work in the attic.  At this point, you can't really push the pace - as Andy said to Phil, my plumber "My pipes are thicker than yours!".  The order for all mechanical systems is HVAC first, plumbing second, electrical third, and home audio/network last before drywall.

Lights

Planning lighting can be straight forward on paper.  Then when you get the electrician involved, it starts getting tricky!  They love lights - and the more pot lights you put in, the more money they make, and pot lights are generally a cash cow for electricians.  So, you need to do the straight forward part (on paper) so you have a good plan to start with, before you start the walkthrough with the light-happy electrician!
