Basement Slab

Peter and his dad and the crew arrived early to start the basement slab pour.  First they made a makeshift chute to bring the concrete down through the small window at the front side.  By the end of the day, we had a beautifully smooth concrete slab in the basement.  Now for some heat to keep it all warm!

Windows

John from A&J windows is in today putting in... the windows!  I love John because he's very particular about the installation - making sure the fit is good, nice and level and putting in a good amount of foam insulation.  He also removes the screens from all of the windows and stores it at his shop until move in, so they don't get dirty and damaged.  Looks great!

HVAC Starts

The HVAC guys from Pinewood Heating are here to start the upstairs.  The owner's son Andy is a great worker.  Though he's a young guy, he's very experienced and is great with the walkthrough before they start the work.  They will probably be done the upstairs by next Tuesday/Wednesday, then they can start the basement.

Concrete & Drains

Aveiro is here today to finish up their drain work, as well as stripping the forms under the garage and porch.  It looks like they'll be ready to pour the basement slab tomorrow, which is fantastic.

Roof done for now

Virgilio has finished the back roof above the breakfast area, and put in temporary water protection on the front bay window - he'll come back after the stone guys have finished to do the small finishing touches.

Ready for the plumber

I've gone through and marked the toilet, shower and vanity areas for the plumber.  I'm trying to make it CRYSTAL clear so that we have everything where we want it.  Is this clear enough? :-)

Cleaning up

Ahhh... now that the carpentry crew have gone, it's time to clean up!  I love cleaning up - seems to level set the project to get things ready for the next set of trades.  By the way, yes, the front "lawn" is a muddy mess - I'm not complaining about the awesome temperatures we've been getting, but now that my roof is on, would it kill the weatherman to provide a little frost in the morning?!

Carpentry... done (almost)

Hersh and his team are done (for  now!).  Of course they'll be back a few times when they're needed and they'll be back to finish the basement, but for now... gone.  I'll miss getting yelled at :-)

Carpentry details

Hersh finished a lot of the outstanding items on the carpentry side today - including the roof of the breakfast bar and the awesome landing skylight.

Roof done!

Virgilio and his gang put the last touches on the flat part of the roof.  First, a thick layer of rubber membrane, then a thick sheeting of shingle like material.  The roof looks great.

Sanitary and Drains

Today is the day where we finally bring in the sanitary line (and 1" water pipe) into the house.  Aveiro has the digger digging the line to connect where the city left off and they've offered to hook in the water as well so the plumber doesn't have to wait around all day.

Here, we're bringing the last connection into the basement bathroom.
