Survey for footings

Digging out from the mess

The mess from the rain was bigger than I thought.  It doesn't look like much when you're 30 feet away - put try putting a shovel in it - lots of earth.  So we have to get Elephant to come back tomorrow to move all of the collapsed sides out of the way.  The ever-shifting plan is to get the surveyor today (hopefully he doesn't freak out at the lack of clean lines), Elephant tomorrow morning, carpentry for the footings tomorrow afternoon, and rabar/inspection/pour on Friday morning.

Weather, weather

We've been on edge all day here at project central - the rain has been unbelievable - somebody check the record books.  We've had some further erosion of soil along the north and south side, but nothing too out of hand.  Hopefully things hold up ok until tomorrow.

If the weather cooperates (please!) we can get the footings set up tomorrow, then rebar, inspect and pour on Thursday.  Fingers crossed - I'm normally optimistic, but this weather has me a bit down.

Ok, I'm back up - it will be sunny tomorrow!

Rainy Day

We had things set up to mark and set the footing forms today, but the heavy rains have nixed that.  We will try again tomorrow.  Who thought that rain in late November would slow us down?

Pool Walls Built

The Gib-San elves snuck in and built the pool walls (or is it a hockey rink) today.

Tarps did the trick

Quick sand

The base of the excavation is remarkably stable, given how unstable the top 4 feet of soil is.  However, when we started to dig out the extra depth for the walkout footings, we came into some wet, soft soil.  We'll have to make a decision on how to proceed, because this is very tenuous ground for solid footings.
